It is with our deepest sorrow and greatest admiration that we announce the death of Dr John Bryden, a Student Cross trustee, on the 17 November 2022. Dr Bryden was heavily involved in the organisation throughout the past seven decades and contributed immensely to the pilgrimage during this time. A former General Organising Director (GOD); as a student he walked with Northern leg, and later alongside his family on Family and Easter Leg. Most notably Dr Bryden was the author of Behold the wood: A history of Student Cross 1948-1998 documenting the history of the pilgrimage and its legacy for future walkers. Well known amongst many of our walkers, Dr Bryden will be greatly missed. We will be eternally grateful for his wonderful contribution to our community.

His funeral will take place at St Anthony’s RC Church, Fakenham, North Norfolk on 4th January 2023 at 11am and anyone who knew him is welcome to attend. The family also hope to be able to provide a live stream or recording to share with those unable to attend.
